Yemen: The world’s worst humanitarian crisis

Scenes in Yemen look apocalyptic. Most cities have been destroyed. Children roam the streets, rummaging through the trash, picking out anything they can eat or sell.

Their lives have been turned upside down.

At the moment:

  1. 19.7 million people need basic healthcare.
  2. Almost 18 million people are in need of water and sanitation facilities.
  3. Over 3 million people have been left displaced by conflict.

Water, food and electricity are running out fast, and diseases like cholera and covid-19 are ravaging through the country.

Injured children helplessly await medical help in one of Yemens few hospitals.

The population is at risk.

Sadly, Yemen won’t be able to cope with a severe outbreak of covid-19 (coronavirus). It will be catastrophic for an already malnourished population with poor healthcare facilitiesIf wealthy countries are struggling to manage the coronavirus outbreak, can you imagine how Yemen will cope?

80% of Yemen’s population, that is 24 million people are in urgent need of your support.

12.2 million children are currently in danger and so far 85,000 children under the age of 5 have sadly died due to malnutrition.

That is the equivalent of loosing every child under the age of 5 in the city of Birmingham. An innocent child is dying a preventable death every ten minutes. A mother is loosing a child in her arms.

Mercy Relief is a specialist charity operating in Yemen. The people of Yemen are our first priority right now.

We’re on the ground working tirelessly to protect the most vulnerable. We are saving lives and we need your help. Without your support we cannot make a difference.

There is so much more to do – and time is running out.
